Why Point Count Bird Monitoring?
These time efficient, accurate surveys provided us with data allowing us to examine different aspects of avian-habitat relationships at the Selu Conservancy, Radford, Virginia. We can examine relationships such as which species occupied which habitats, or the quantity of individuals that occupied each habitat. Since we conducted our surveys monthly, we can also examine correlations that may have occurred over the seasonal change of winter to spring of this year. We can also compare this years data to the results of surveys conducted in the past to see if there are any significant year-to-year relationships. The data that we obtained was entered into Natures Notebook, which is a part of the USA National Phenology Network. This database consists of thousands of data entries from scientist and volunteers since 2007. This helped us to examine bird relationships on a larger scale. |
